Polycarbonate cut, also known under various brand names such as MAKROLON, LEXAN, QUINN PC, or POLYCASA PC.

Polycarbonate cut

Polycarbonate cut, probably the most important property of this plastic is the extreme impact strength, hence the colloquial term armored glass

Polycarbonate was developed in 1953 by Bayer AG and registered under the MAKROLON brand, later the LEXAN brand was added. Since then, the brand names have established themselves worldwide. Polycarbonate is usually available in opal (milky, cloudy) and transparent versions. Polycarbonate sheets are available with and without UV stabilization.

What properties does polycarbonate have?

Probably the most important property of this plastic is its extreme impact resistance. Even hitting the panels directly with a hammer cannot break this plastic, which is why LEXAN and MACROLON are often chosen as safety glazing and, last but not least, also popularly referred to as armored glass. A possible hail damage, falling, hard and heavy objects cannot break this material. A not insignificant advantage is the weight of polycarbonate - it weighs about 50% less than glass. Another important advantage is flexibility and pliability, because polycarbonate can be easily bent without breaking, even when cold. While acrylic glass is hard and brittle and therefore breaks more easily, you can even cold edge polycarbonate sheets. This plastic easily withstands temperatures between -40°C and +130°C. Furthermore, this plastic is a suitable insulator against electricity, but also against heat or cold. Thanks to special UV stabilization, polycarbonate is equally suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is extremely weather-resistant. Polycarbonate cut
